The Landscape Rodeo is a brand-new, hands-on event created by FNGLA’s Frontrunners Chapter. Over two days, crews, students, and vendors go head-to-head in real-world challenges that use the same machines and skills landscapers rely on every day. It’s high-energy, fast-paced, and designed to celebrate the talent and teamwork that make this industry strong.

Every challenge is designed to be thrilling, competitive, and, most importantly, fun. So bring your best, cheer on your crew, and let’s see who takes home the trophy!

Heavy Equipment & Handling

Precision under pressure with skid steers, excavators, and loaders.

Skid Steer Precision Course: Navigate a tight obstacle course with cones, ramps, and narrow lanes. Judged on time, accuracy, and penalties.
Skid Steer Pallet Stack/Water Challenge: Pick up, stack, and restack pallets or blocks. Judged on speed, precision, and safety.
Mini Excavator Tennis Ball Transfer: Use a mini-excavator to move tennis balls into a barrel without dropping them. Scored on finesse and time.
Mini Excavator Ring Hook Challenge: Use a hook or pin tool to lift rings from one post and transfer them accurately.
Mini Skid Steer Obstacle Run: Maneuver a mini skid steer through a compact course with precision tasks like cone weaving and payload placement.
Mini Articulated Loader Course: Operate an articulated loader through a technical course emphasizing turning, load handling, and placement accuracy.
Mini Skid Steer Trenching Challenge: Dig an L-shaped trench to specifications with a mini skid steer. Judged on time, accuracy, and safety.

Power Equipment Handling

Master the speed and control of professional-grade mowers and blowers.

36″ Walk-Behind Mower Course: Navigate a technical course using a 36” mower. Judged on speed, control, and cut quality.
52″ Stand-On Mower Course: Ride through a course with curves, slaloms, and obstacles. Speed and safety are key.
60″ Zero-Turn Mower Course: Operate a zero-turn mower through a layout testing turning control and clean cut execution.
Lawnmower Relay Race (3 Person): Teams complete a relay using various mower types. Judged on time, accuracy, and proper handoffs.
Blower Relay (2 Person): Team-based event guiding objects with backpack blowers. Judged on control and teamwork.
Backpack Blower Ping-Pong Challenge: Blow 18 ping pong balls into a trash can using a blower. Most balls in with the fastest time wins.
Backpack Blower Soccer (3 Person): Team-based event where teams with blowers play beach ball soccer. Judged on score and teamwork.

Small Equipment Maintenance & Handling

Quick fixes and sharp skills with essential tools of the trade.

Edger Blade Swap Challenge: Change the blade on a stick edger quickly and safely. Accuracy and efficiency matter.
String Trimmer Re-String Race: Re-string a line trimmer from empty to ready-to-run. Fastest clean install wins.
Irrigation Valve Assembly: Disassemble and reassemble an irrigation valve. Judging will be based on time and accuracy of irrigation valve reassembly.
Blindfold Irrigation Head Assembly: Assemble an irrigation head with eyes covered. Judged on time and accuracy.
